Stephanie Atenco-Torres

Hello, my name is Stephanie Atenco-Torres. I’m a writer who also loves embroidery. I first learned embroidery in high school through an after-school fashion program, where I studied techniques such as embroidery, tailoring, fashion illustration, and patternmaking. One of my favorite skills is transferring embroidery designs onto doll clothing, especially dresses.
What I love most about embroidery is the creativity it allows. I can take existing pieces, add my own designs, and transform them into something that reflects my personal style.
I also appreciate how embroidery connects to cultural fashion, pop culture, and everyday wear. I always say, “Embroidery can be found anywhere in the world if you look closely enough.”
Throughout high school, I earned two certificates in Fashion Illustration I and II. When I started college, I decided to combine my background in fashion with my experience writing for my high school newspaper about pop culture and fashion by pursuing a degree in Fashion Journalism at LIM College.
Now, as a student at LIM College, I am an intern at Thrill Mag, where I write about Latino and disability rights. Although writing is one of my biggest passions, I also enjoy building puzzles, reading, collecting CDs, and, of course, there is still a part of me that loves fashion design.
