DID YOU KNOW?
Mountmellick embroidery emerged in 19th-century Ireland as a bold and distinctive form of whitework. Unlike delicate lace, it uses heavy white cotton threads on white satin fabric to create raised floral and botanical motifs. Traditionally used on household linens, it reflects Irish resilience and resourcefulness. The stitches are often padded or knotted, giving Mountmellick its signature textured appearance.
