Art Nouveau: One Flower, Four Techniques By Cathy Monier of Cathy Fils et Passions. The spirit of the project:
The aim of this creation was to bring together and showcase Cathy's four preferred embroidery techniques around a single Art Nouveau motif, while maintaining a precious unifying theme: the harmonious marriage of silk and gold.
Type of embroidery: this work features 4 techniques:
1 - Cloudy gold where Cathy have woven a double gold thread with Algerian silk.
2 - Point de Beauvais: Made with crochet using Gütermann silk thread.
3 - Needle painting executed with Algerian silk thread.
4- Crewel: embroidered with leather, metal threads, gold and gimp cords, Cathy replaced the traditional wool with silk threads intended for knitting.
For the assembly of each flower, as explained, Cathy cut each square and then:
1 - doubled with Décovil,
2 - applied on a taffeta background,
3 - then framed with two cords (black + green and gold).
All of it is stretched on a 25x25 cm cardboard.
